The Cantonese-style restaurant—a destination for dumplings, Peking duck, and of course, rice porridge—was transformed into a hip downtown bash, hosted by designer Sandy Liang in honor of the Lunar New Year. The location was special, given the restaurant is owned by her father (who also opened the neighboring institution Congee Village back in the ’90s). “Me and my siblings have always joked that it would be such a good club space, because the ceilings are so high,” says Liang of the restaurant. “So, we turned it into that for one night.” Despite growing up in the city and celebrating the holiday annually with her family, Liang had never hosted her very own Lunar New Year party before. “I hope to make it more of a tradition. I want to host it every year now,” she says. Co-host, chef, and Liang’s close friend Danny Bowien (of Mission Chinese) served some light fare for the party. Liang wanted to honor the Chinese traditions she grew up with, while also inviting some of Manhattan’s fashion crowd into her family’s restaurant. “All the restaurants are like my second home,” says Liang. “Every big occasion or family birthday dinner is there. I had my sweet sixteen in the basement [of Congee Village.]”

Inside the Florida Gators 2023 Sec Baseball Regular Season Champions Shirts Apart from…,I will love this bash, DJ and SoulCycle instructor Parker Radcliffe spun eclectic music. “I only do Parker’s classes,” says Liang. “The vibes are so good, and his music is so good.” Cocktails were being made with Baijiu—a Lunar New Year must, says Liang. “I keep telling my friends that it’s basically Everclear, but for Chinese people,” laughs Liang. “It’s like just straight-up rubbing alcohol.” Once buzzed, guests could even partake in some shopping: On display was a small Lunar New Year accessories capsule collection that Liang launched last week, which included Year of the Bunny earrings, necklaces, and barrettes. “We’re donating part of proceeds to Welcome to Chinatown,” says Liang, a nonprofit organization that addresses the critical needs of Chinatown’s community and entrepreneurs.
